Chris plans to prioritize the following issues once he is on the school board:
Scholastic Achievement & Curriculum
As a school board member, I will ensure that our district is focused on educating the next generation in the basics of reading, writing, math, & science. I will ensure that our policies reflect the educational values in our school district while also ensuring accountability for those we entrust with our student's education. My focus will be to find ways to support teachers and administrators in their efforts to improve student retention, graduation rates, and test scores K-12.
My goal as a school board member is to provide the district with the resources and tools necessary to improve our student's overall ability to be productive community members post K-12. I want them prepared for life. You can count on me to thoroughly review/question any curriculum recommendations put before the board against a strict set of principles to ensure that it will benefit our students and community in the long term.
Real World Technical & Vocational Education Programs
I will advocate that the district invests in real world technical education and trade programs. I will champion skill-based curriculum, experiential learning, and vocational education opportunities that will prepare our students for the future with cutting-edge, real world learning programs. Programs such as nursing, welding, artificial intelligence, electrical, plumbing and other skill based programs which lead to successful students post K-12.
Safety
Our children are the most important part of our school district since they represent our future communities. As a school board member, I will ensure the Springfield-Platteview school district maintains a culture of campus safety so all students & faculty can be their best during scholastic activities. This includes a robust safety plan which ensures classroom environments are safe and respectful for ALL students and teachers, free of bullying or intimidation. Safety Continuity Plans are essential for any school district in America and instituting one in our district will provide our teachers and students the confidence needed to teach and learn in a safe environment.
Fiscal Management
As a school board member it is my duty to ensure we allocate our resources to best meet the needs of our students, teachers, and our community. It is imperative that we prioritize the educational needs of our district and make fiscal decisions that help our teachers & students while being a good steward of taxpayer dollars.
Transparency
Ensure parents have online access to curriculum and I will publicly provide my school board votes online. I will commit to regularly holding town hall meetings for parental feedback.
